10 Amazing Active Vacation Destinations

Austria hiking paradise
Although I love to relax with a cocktail on an exotic beach or an exquisite pool for a day or two, I prefer most of the time a bit more action while on vacation. My perfect holiday destination is a place that combines beautiful scenery with lots of hiking opportunities. Austria for example offers amazing landscapes, wild water rafting, thermal pools and endless hiking opportunities. It's as well my dog's favorite vacation destination :) Here's a list of 10 other amazing holiday destinations for anyone craving action, excitement and stunning landscapes.

1. National Parks in the USA

The National Parks in the USA never stop to amaze me; a combination of breath-taking scenery combined with lots of hiking, water sports, wildlife spotting and even rock climbing opportunities.

2. Lapland

I visited Finnish Lapland a few years ago and till today it is one of my most memorable holidays ... husky sledging through stunning snow landscapes, a snowmobile safari across frozen lakes, smoking your own salmon ...

3. Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are - without any doubt - one of the best places on earth to view wildlife. Awe-inspiring islands, unique wildlife, water activities ... did you know you can also do some great hikes on the Galapagos? The hike to the Sierra Negra Volcano on Isabela Island for example.

4. Iceland

Iceland is a fairytale country filled with natural wonders. Admire the many awe-inspiring waterfalls, take a boat tour on the glacier lake, soak in the hot springs ... you can also go for a glacier hike with ice climbing and of course Iceland has also many hiking opportunities (mainly in the summer).

5. Sacred Valley - Peru

However there are many other beautiful archeological sites in the area; Inca Pisac for example. In addition the Sacred Valley offers amazing trekking opportunities; the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu being the most famous one. A day-hike which offers amazing landscapes is the one from Moray to Maras.

6. Nepal
